Pretend you’re in Salem, Massachusetts, 1693 – the year after the Salem Witch Trials. Design a colorful sign welcoming travelers to the village.
Today, many cities have slogans – short sayings that help people remember the place. For example, the slogan for Dallas, Texas is “Live Large, Think Big.” The idea is for people to connect Dallas with big dreams and big ideas.
In the 1600s, cities didn’t really have catchy slogans. Imagine you are living in Salem in 1693, the year after the Salem Witch Trials. Some forward-thinking colonists have asked you to design a sign to welcome people as they enter the village.
Your sign must be colorful, include icons or symbols that fit Salem, and show a humorous but respectful slogan that starts with “Welcome to Salem” and includes some witchy wordplay.
