Our Mid-Atlantic Class Story

“Okay, geographers,” Mr. Hill said, “let’s take a quick trip through the Mid-Atlantic!” I wrote in my notebook that the Mid-Atlantic has four states. On the screen I listed them out loud: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Vermont and Kentucky. When we zoomed in on New York, I said the capital was New York City. Then I bragged that I knew Maryland so well and told everyone its capital is Baltimore, and that Delaware’s capital is Wilmington. I pointed to the crowded map and explained that the biggest city in the Mid-Atlantic is Harrisburg. When a picture of water came up, I said the giant bay in Maryland is Delaware Bay. Later I traced a river between Pennsylvania and New Jersey and called it the Hudson River. I even said that Pennsylvania has beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. I finished my notes with, “New Jersey is the biggest Mid-Atlantic state,” and Mr. Hill just smiled and said, “Let’s fix those together.”
