Our New England Class Story

โ€œToday,โ€ Ms. Rivera told our social studies class, โ€œweโ€™re going to explore New England.โ€ I wrote at the top of my notes that New England has five states. I even listed them: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York. When we zoomed in on Massachusetts, I said the capital was Springfield, and that Maineโ€™s capital was Portland. I also announced that the biggest city in all of New England was Providence. On the next slide, mountains appeared, and I told everyone that the tallest peak in New England was Mount Katahdin. Then I pointed to the map and said that only Rhode Island touches the Atlantic Ocean. We talked about early colonies, and I proudly reported that the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth in New Hampshire. I even mixed up rivers and explained that the Connecticut River runs between Maine and Canada. I ended by saying that Rhode Island is the largest state in New England. Everyone stared at me, and Ms. Rivera laughed, โ€œLetโ€™s fix those!โ€
