Fun With Acts and Taxes |
This activity requires students to imagine their school institutes unjust acts against them such as the Homework Act and Cafeteria Act similar to the Stamp Act, Townshend Act, and Intolerable Acts. It then requires students to fill in the details of such acts before coming up with one of their own. Students get to play the bad guy! |
Use this Activity: |
| Explain/Brainstorm - Students will love this activity. Tell them that they get to play the "bad guy" and devise the details of a series of acts against the students. Then, they get to come up with their own act. I've done this activity many times with students and have learned how to introduce it. Encourage them to come up with acts that are at least somewhat realistic or plausible. Encourage against acts that assign 1,000 pages of homework or 50 hours of homework. |
| Morning Work - This activity can serve as a fun start to the day or social studies class. |
| Homework - This activity is a great way to assign homework in social studies or language arts. |
| Share - When students have completed the assignment, display them or allow students to share their work. |
| Interactive Notebook - This assignment serves as a great entry in interactive social studies notebooks. |
