Use this Activity:

Discuss - First, ask students, "What do you think the role of a first lady is?" Then, explain to students that Abigail Adams was much more than a "First Lady" to John Adams. She served as his chief spiritual and political advisor. Read the passage aloud, or, allow students to read the passage independently or in pairs. After a few minutes ask the class, "Why are the letters between Abigail and John Adams so important in American history?"
