| Discuss - First, ask students if they think the Boston Tea Party was an actual party. Ask them if it was like any party they’ve ever been to. Wait for responses. Then, read the narrative aloud or have students read it to themselves, or, in pairs. Next, ask why the event, that was once known as the Destruction of the Tea, became known as the Boston Tea Party. Explain that the Boston Tea Party was a protest against the monopoly given to the East India Company. Review the concept of monopoly and ask students why the East India Company monopoly was ultimately bad for the colonists. Then, discuss the British response. Ask students if they think the Intolerable Acts were fair or unfair. |
