The Underdog

This prompt outlines describes the concept of the underdog and how the Americans were underdogs during the Revolutionary War. Students must write about a time when they were the underdog, or, about a character in literature, movies, or sports, that won as the underdog.
 

Use this Activity:

Discuss - Read the activity description to students and explain to them the Continental Army was an underog against the powerful British military. Ask them to relate by writing a narrative about themselves as an underdog, or a character in a book or movie, or sports team.
Morning Work - The activity takes most students about 20 minutes to complete, making it an ideal solution for morning work. It can be part of a series of Revolutionary War-themed writing activities offered to students as morning work.
Homework - This activity is a great way to assign homework in social studies or language arts.
