13 Colonies Not Boring Jeopardy

This is a "jeopardy" like game on the 13 colonies. It's super fun for classrooms, individuals, or small teams, totally customizable. See below for how to set this up with your class.

Use this Activity:

  • Step 1.) First, break your class into three groups if possible. "Boring" Jeopardy is self-explanatory, but if you want to play Not-boring Jeopardy, see the steps below. Your students will LOVE Not-boring Jeopardy.
  • Step 2.) Set up a single computer that projects to the whiteboard ready for students
  • Step 3.) Set up the game. The game is more fun for students when you uncheck "take turns." If you choose this option, one student from each team will come up to the computer (one after the other). The player from Team 1 will pick the first category and value. Then, he or she will click "start clock". A timer with milliseconds starts and the player has to try to stop the clock as close to 500 milliseconds elapsed as possible. Then, the player from team 2 will do the same thing, followed by the player from team 3.
  • Step 4.) The player from the team that is able to stop the clock closest to 500 milliseconds will win control of the board for their team and will be able to answer the question. Students will initially struggle with stopping the clock, but will soon get the hang of it. Some students might be able to time it perfectly so they're only a few milliseconds away from 500. This will produce great excitement in the class.
  • Step 5.) The team that wins the clock contest will retain control of the board whether or not they answer correctly. If a question is answered incorrectly, it is dead and cannot be answered by another team.
